About Us

At The Happy Hens Farm, we do all that is possible to stay true to our name. We believe that a Happier and Healthier life of the bird would result in healthier and tastier eggs and meat. We provide the birds with a life as close to their natural life-style as possible.

Our birds are fed a diet which more natural than those of intensively farmed birds. They can eat grass and bugs in addition to their ration. The birds are completely free from any non-therapeutic antibiotics, weight inducing hormones. At The Happy Hens Farm, natural egg productivity is maintained by not practicing force molting, and the chicken are allowed to grow as naturally as possible.

All the birds in our free-range facility are given outdoor access. One might wonder why this is such an important point to mention on a website? Well, the fact is that approximately 80% of India’s egg production comes from Battery-caged hens which live their entire life without any scope to fully stretch their limbs or spread their wings, confined in a cage with space less than the size of an A4 sheet of paper. So it is with pride that we mention that our birds are given outdoor access. They can walk, run and fly, they have the opportunity to forage and dust bathe and sun bathe, they have places to perch and roost, and they peck at the bugs, grass and grains from the ground. They engage in comfort behavior such as wing-flapping and preening, they exercise and explore.

Another reason for our hens to be happy is that they have the opportunity to lay their eggs in nests, which is a very important and natural behavior that they experience. Studies have proven that hens which do not have access to nest while laying eggs (like in the battery cages), show signs of frustration and distress. Also, our premise is cleaned on a daily basis, preventing the bird droppings from accumulating and polluting the air with ammonia, thus keeping the birds healthier.

In short, the following 5 freedoms are provided to the birds at The Happy Hens Farm:

• Freedom from Hunger and Thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a    diet to maintain full health and vigour.
• Freedom from Discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment    including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
• Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis    and treatment.
• Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour - by providing sufficient space,    proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.
• Freedom from Fear and Distress - by ensuring conditions and treatment    which avoid mental suffering.

It is by these natural practices and experiences that we allow our birds at The Happy Hens Farm, to live a life that is as close to their natural life-style, and this is how we are able to provide you with healthier and tastier eggs from healthier and happier hens.

The Happy Hens Farm has been started by a group of environmentally conscious, animal loving friends, whose main motive is to successfully run a practice that betters the lives of the birds.
